Trans temp gauge wiring

where would you hook the red and the purple wires? Instructions below. I'm
sure someone has done this before, if you know the wires it would make this go smoother for me. Thanks.

Water, Oil, Transmission Temperature

1. Connect red wire from gauge to a switched 12v source (12v switched power source means that there are 12v to the red wire when the ignition switch is on and no voltage when the ignition switch is off)

2. Connect black wire from gauge to a good engine block ground

3. Connect purple wire from gauge to the night time dimming circuit. (The purple wire must be connected to the headlight switch circuit so that there are 12v to the purple wire when the headlight switch is on and no voltage when the headlight switch is off)

4. Connect white wire from gauge to white wire from the temperature sending unit provided

NOTE: Do not use Teflon tape or sealing compound when installing sender. Threads on sender are self sealing and must make good contact with ground!

purple wire to the wire on your dimmer switch...i think its purple and yellow? i can remember. just start pokin wires with the test light til you find one that dims with your dimmer switch. red wire if you have an after market stereo just tap into the red wire on it.
Cool, I dont know where my mind is. I got the red wired up. and a good ground. There is a purple wire...guess that that is the one...now I just need to find my wire strippers and put in the sender and should be set. It comes on now though.
