I want to swap my tranny on my 4.8 2011 silverado I was just wondering if I need to get a specific year 4l80 tranny and what's a good price for one? My current 4l60 has 12k miles on it is it worth anything?

My plans are to start off with a tranny and eventually boost it sometime in the next year... What other mods would be good to do once tranny is upgraded?

As for supporting mods, if you're going with boost what kind? Supercharged then get a pair of long tube headers. If it's a turbo kit like the one from Trick Performance then leave the exhaust until you're ready. Most nessisary upgrade is your rear end. Change the stock carier to a Detroit Truetrac. Since you would already be replacing the carier a regear is recomended. 1st gear in a a 4L80e is steeper at 2.48 vs 3.06 in the 4l60e. From the look of your Sig something like a set of 4.10s or 4.30s would make it launch hard.

thats a good write up.

we did my friends 08 silverado. we used a tuned by frost 4l80e swap harness. he ordered a yank converter for the 80e in a 60e flexplate pattern so we didnt need to change flexplates. if you have a factory trans cooler then the line that goes to it isnt going to work. youll need one from a truck with an 4l80e since the port it goes to is farther back on the trans than the 4l60e port. or you can do away with factory lines and do braided AN lines. Have to modify the stock crossmember a bit or buy the member made ones from pt.net .

if you can afford converter like yank, circle d , or fti then go ahead and do it all at once.

Sure that 60e is worth some money, esp. with 12,000miles on it. Not sure whats its worth, but it surely will take a large dent out of an 80e swap.

Here's what I would try. Call up a few transmission shops and explain your situation. See if you can work out a trade for a 4L80 with maybe cash involved. A lot of shops need 4L60s.

^ thats actually a good idea,

we picked up an 4l80e out of an 02 2500hd silverado last week for 700 with flexplate. its going in an 08 sierra with a turbo. doesnt really matter what year . the newer the better. honestly i wouldnt use anything older than a 99-00. but thats just preference .
on the truck i mentioned above we used an 03 out of 2500hd as well.
