Last night i was driving to work and every time I slowed down or stopped the lights would get dim, the amps would drop to around 9 and just seemed like it wanted to die. But if you would just tap the gas, or while driving, it would do fine. What to you think it could be. Alternator, fan belt, fuel pump, catalytic converter, etc. I'm drawing a big blank.

It' a 02 chevy 1500HD

I had this happen on my old cavalier and it was the alternator. At idle the lights would dim but while crusing everything was fine. You can stop off at autozone or any other parts store and they can test the alternator for you for free.

Could be the alternator or the belt, which would be the first check. See what kind of condition the belt is in. Is it glazing...worn? Also check the belt tensioner. Make sure the belt does have too much free deflection in it.
