I have an "02" Silverado that won't shut off with the key. The key works like normal but engine keeps running, Anybody have any ideas? Sounds like the ignition sw. to me. Any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

To get it to shut off? Pull a main fuse from the underhood fuse panel.

It has an aftermarket alarm sys. and I had to have the neutral safety sw. replaced this last winter. The key works just like normal, I can turn it to the off position and take the key out and it's still running. I pulled the coil pac wires to shut it off.

Have a turbo on it? Might have a system that keeps running until oil cools to a certain temp to keep from blowing the turbo? Should shut off when tapping the brake when key is removed though.

OK, new ignition sw & harness installed, alarm system disabled. It puts all kind of codes in it. It's been at the shop for almost 6 days and the tech's have been working on it. It is a RAMDOM problem, don't do it all of the time. Any more ideas? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Forgot to mention, the SECURITY lite comes on and I don't have a factory security system.

Do you have mice that live in your area? We replace 2 to 3 underhood fuse blocks a month here due to mouse piss shorting the block. This is the same problem those trucks all have. Yours could just be shorting out even if you don't have mice.

laibal, is there any way to check this to be sure? I know they checked under fuse box for burn't wires. Can you visibly see this or is there a check for it? We already put in a new ign. sw. and harness on a guess, that was $300. Thanks

I'm not the mechanic changing them. I work in the parts dept of a Chevy Buick dealer in rural ND. Lots of mice up here.... Somewhere along the line we threw all these parts at a truck until the block fixed it. Sorry but that's all the info I really have.

I had a Mercedes diesel at work that the fuse box was corroded inside and keeping the ignition relay powered. You shut the key off and all the gauges went dead and everything powered down, but the engine kept running. See if you can take the fuse box apart and see if there is any green corrosion in there or anything that is jumping a circuit. Before putting it back in clean everything with battery terminal cleaner then brake clean and then blast it with an air hose. Put it back in and see what happens.

I pulled conn. on ECM, TPS, all injectors & coil pacs, everything looks new, no corrosion anywhere. Could this problem be with the neutral safety switch? It had to be replaced last winter as it was corroded and shorted. This is so the truck only starts in park or neutral, could this keep it from shutting off in park? Thanks for any help.
