Want to add a steering wheel with the controlls

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 with just about all options, except the XM radio and On Star. My current steering wheel doesn't have any factory radio controlls, and I really miss that... guess I should have taken it for a test drive before I bought it. I was told it's easy to swap out the steering wheel for a new wheel with the controlls since the wiring harness and connections are already there. Is that true, or am I looking at a lot of work to add this feature. I'm running the stock GM 6 disc stereo with the Bose speakers, I plan to leave that alone, it works fine.
