Yesterday I asked if I broke anything or something like that while going off-road would I void the warranty...well something happened but I dont think its too bad...i hope not..I'll tell the story.

I goto the off-road place today and I dont know if theres real bad stuff, me and a friend went back to check out the place but it got really nasty so we turned around and stayed in this one area. On the way to this one area it was like the GM proving grounds, the whole way there (maybe 50 yards) was humps and moguls, pretty fun...but after that there was maybe 2 acres of just open area with mud puddles and some hills and stuff like that, nothing a stock truck couldnt handle. Well we go in the puddles to make sure they arent like 3 feet deep and then after that floor it through them, and do donuts and all that fun stuff...then we get lined up with this big one and my friend says "floor it"...so I did and the engine stalled out. after about 5 minutes it started back up so we went back up front. We knew something got wet and sure enough..open the air-box and the filter is soaking wet, and theres some water in the bottom of the box and some in the little hose right after the air box. So I took out the air filter and drove about 10 miles w/o one to an autozone to get one...while there I had them run codes because my check engine light was on; said something to do with the mass airflow sensor so we figured it just got wet. we drive it to my friends house and take it all apart to make sure we get all the water out and that resevoir between air box and intake was like half full of water...so I cleaned out everything best I could and it runs like it did before, I cant tell a diff, but I have a few questions...

1. After running the codes does the check engine light automatically turn off, or does it do that when the problem gets fixed?

2. Should I worry horribly about what happened and take it to a dealer and tell them I went through a big puddle or something like that?

3. is there a way I could prevent this from happening again w/o getting a snorkel? the place was really fun but I dont wanna go and have to change my air filter every time I go

wow thats odd, i've mashed around in mud and big puddles with an open airaid intake without gettin a bit of water on it, same thing with zubyc
yeah thats what i wondered...the puddles were maybe, at the most, 8 inches deep, thats a guess to, maybe i was going to fast? i was going prolly 35-40 for the fastest one, on average prolly around 25-30 though. Id like to get a new air intake, but if this happens with the stock one then im screwed.

ive sucked water like you said, dont worry a bit, ive done it like 3 or 4 times. Just repalce teh filter ( i have a k&n so i just dry it ou t) and your good to go. Also the codes will stay until someone clears them. They can do it at autozone or just disconnect your battery for like 30 min. I hav e been meaning to make a splash guard where the intake is, so it wont suck water thrown off the tires so easy like this.

yeah, i wanna figure something out, because I honestly dont wanna go out there and have to stop in the middle of everything and replace an air filter...it only took 30 minutes of puddles until the thing stalled. also my i think my horn got water in it, haha..it sounds like shit now

been there and done that but instead of getting it soaked the air filter fell apart and the MAS was fucked so i had to get a new one. After that i went to the offroad expo in pamona and got me a k&n which solved the problem for me. Since then ive been through rivers and mud with no probs.

well has your k&n got soaking wet at all? to me what happened just doesnt seem right, it doesnt make sense that without the filter being submurged in water that it got so wet the engine couldnt breathe and stalled out. i might go buy a k&n i dunno, i really wanna make sure this wont happen again so i can go play again :D

by the way, where does the air intake come from...all i noticed in the box was a hole in the side..is there some tube that goes down by the fender or something? i know in my honda right next to the air box there is a tube that goes down by the bumper, and i havent really got a good look at my truck.

Also, if my MAS was messed up would I know? because I dont know if the guy at autozone reset it but after we left there the check engine light wasnt on, and hasnt came on since...so we figured it was just wet

yes you would def know. I stalled like every mile on the way to the chevy dealer. I think what happened is it got soaked and the stupid paper filter just kinda fell apart. then i probably went back and sprayed some water from another puddle which got the MAS wet. With the K&N the filter is reusable and water doesnt ruin it. It will get wet and might let a little water in buy it will not just fall apart like my paper one did. As for where the hole is in the stock one i cant really remember right now its been off for a while.

The hole is behind the fender obviosly on the pass. side. Maybe ill make a dozen or so of the splash guards up later this summer, all it would be is something to stick under the intake hole so water doesnt splash up into it from the groud/tires. I think it should help some, worth a shot at least.

yes, that would be very sweet. i need to figure something out, because i only got to go for a half hour and i wanna go again, but leaving the truck like it is i know if i go again the same thing is going to happen.
