Does voltage matter or anything
looks like a decent set-up for 8 bucks. I vote buy.
you mean amps? i think all soldering guns are 110v. and amps arent that big of a deal if unless your doin big wires and then i would rather use a pencil torch or something like that
I've got a 25w Weller at home, it ok...it solders leads, tins wires, coats traces, but it's not all that hot and the stupid tip never stays tight.

We had a Weller WESD51 at my old job for putting together R&D stuff and that thing was awesome. Plenty of wattage and it heated quickly. Always was a pleasure to wire with that thing nearby.
Mine are from Tandy/Radio Shack... work fine. I have a butane one for working in weird spots. :imo
Craftsman dual setting gun. It's great if your at your work bench but it's a little difficult to use in tighter spots.
I have a cheap one but if you doing LEDs buy a pencil tip. At Fry electronics, they have a variety of different tips that you can choose from.
I have 3 of these and they work awesome for quick splice jobs. They came out with a new and improved bevel tip thats way more durable than the original.

really? i was just kidding. i attempted to use one of these once and it would just not get hot enough. it baught it for a buddy of mine as a gag gift though. so no big loss i guess.

It's fine. The "kit" parts are incredibly cheesy, but it's a decent soldering iron and the solder that it comes with is fine. Any cheap soldering iron will work for LEDs and such.

Fucking "ColdHeat" bullshit never managed to melt a single drop of solder for me. Waste of time and money.

I'd also like to add... That THIS shit, combined with heatshrink tubing is :head2:

Now that looks like a good thing!

Other options:
- Solder in a tube. It's a liquid or gel or something. You add it to the joint then heat it with whatever heat source is handy (cigarette lighter).
- Instead of heatshrink tubing, liquid electrical tape:
