I don't remember if there is an adapter. The transmission and transfer case are still sitting in my garage though so I will have to check when I get home.

I'll let you know what I find

If you have the SM465 trans, it will require (I think, if I remember correctly) the 8.5 inch adapter for the NP208. Look up SM465 to NP208 adapter.

In my old 75 3/4 4x4 I swapped in a sm465 with 208 and am wondering if the 208 will need adapter for turbo 400 to 208? Or would it be easier to put sm465/208 into the 87 ? I have everything for conversion

Ok I see what you are saying.

Is your TH400 already the 4wd model? If so, bolt it on and go - it should have the adapter on it. If it's 2wd, you're in for a lot of work. Pics of what you have would be helpful.

Yes. it was recently rebuilt the t400. And the transfer case was stolen from it. I looked when I purchased it that it doesn't have adapter on back of T400. I'm going to take pics of tail end of it and send your way. Thanks man

Ah, no worries. Just make sure the end of your TH400 matches the bolt pattern of your 208. That's why I was asking.

I was wrong the 75 is sporting a sm465 with a 205. I also have a turbo 350 sporting a 205 not sure on condition of T350 but i have a new rebuilt T350 in a car can that be used if the one T350 is bad

T350 should work in 87 3/4 4×4 right? I have drivelines that came with it off a 1/2 4x4. Or would it be better to use the sm465/205?

If it were mine, I'd just try to find a 208 and keep the TH400. Simple.

You could use the 205, but will need to swap the main shaft and adapter in the 400 since your 205 is behind an SM465. You could try the TH350/205 combo, but I'm not 100% what you have in your arsenal will work. The 205 may be marginally stronger, but the 208 has a better low ratio, and the TH400 is obviously stronger than the 350.

Comes down to how much time and money you want to throw at it.

Will the 205 behind T350 work for T400?

Depends if it’s a manual or not, if it’s auto it’s 208, if it’s manual it’s 205
