Im ready to weld my wheel tubs and notch cover in. Problem is they rusted where they were touched.

Whats the best way to remove the surface rust in preperation to paint? I know im gonna get just sand them down and paint but i was hopeing to have a litte more knowledge than that.

i would just get some heavy duty scotch brite pads. and if thats not good enough then go with sandpaper like 220 grit

I agree. Get something abrasive, some elbow grease and go to town. When I was working on my tubs I would grind the paint, clean with alcohol (dries quickly and leaves no residue) then weld, but for surface rust I would use something like an abrasive woven pad, clean then weld.
