I've got a 2003 3/4 ton Suburban. It's currently got the standard power mirrors. No turn signal ( I don't think they're heated either)

What I would like to to is add a pair of the K Source power tow mirrors with the heat and the integrated turn signal. Like these:

http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Towing-Mirrors/K-Source/KS62075-76G.html

I know these mirrors will physically bolt up to the truck - but what I'm wondering is : does the wiring already exist in the door to make the turn signal and the heated mirror functions work? Or do I have to start running wiring into the door to get these functions?

I just linked to the ETrailer listing because they've got the most informative description. RockAuto has the exact same mirrors for $295.00

If I could find the factory ones - and they didn't want a first child for them - I'd likely get those instead.

I'm just wondering if (whichever one I get) - I'm looking at a plug in install - or if I have to start replacing wiring harnesses and so forth to get all the functionality.

I know in many cases the wiring for options is in there - even if the option itself never gets installed at the factory.

Signal would be plug and play. If you have rear defrost, the heat should be as well. If not, you could just wire the heat on a separate switch.

Excellent - that's what I was wondering. The install doesn't look very hard at all - pretty much plug and play - IF - I don't have to start running more wires.

I do have rear defrost. So the mirrors are on the same circuit as the rear window defrost?

They should be yes. You can just flip it on and touch the mirror glass after a bit to see if it is warm to the touch.

Thanks for all the replies.

I went out to check this last night - started up the truck and left it running - with the defrost switch on. After about 15 minutes - I didn't notice any of the frost on the rear window starting to melt - so I may have another issue here: the defrost is not working. I have the factory manual so I'm going thru that now looking for the diag steps. Once I know the rear defrost works - I 'll be able to check the mirrors and see if they have defrost working.

Did your mirrors get warm?
They didn't seem to. But the rear defroster didn't seem to be working either. So I may have another issue there. I was looking at the manual last night - I may have a chance tonite to take another look at it. Since I didn't seem to be getting any defrost on the rear window - I'm going to start with that and try to make sure that is working first - then I'll check the mirrors.
