Hey guys I need some help. I got a set of heated, powered mirrors with the puddle lamps and I'm having a hard time wiring them up. I currently have power ones and was wondering if you could wire up the puddle lamps and have the defrost work also. I tried to tap into the orange wire on the door, but the lights just stayed on. The harness (on the door) has the wire already in it for the puddle lamp/ defrost ground. Wire H on the right side pic below.

From what I read was that the orange wire on the door light has power to it all of the time and the white wire is the one that has the switch to turn off the light.
connected the wires to the foot well lamp on the driver side there is and orange (+) and white (-) wire for the little light. you have to connect both the positive and negative wire to the foot well light wires, i.e. you can't just ground the ground wire because the orange wire is powered all the time and the ground is actually the switch wire. I found this out the hard way by 3 times of trial and error. if this dosen't make sense i will try to clarify, also i can get some daytime pics or how it is mounted
Now I know someone has done this and if anyone has an idea on how to wire these up so that the puddle lamps and defrost work would be great. I found this thread and it doesn't look like they figured anything out.http://gmfullsize.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89649&highlight=puddle+lamp

My question is how do you wire up the mirrors so the puddle lamp and defrost option work.

I'm assuming you had the basic mirrors before? If that is the case then I'm not sure. I do know that my puddle lamps worked when I installed my new mirrors. But I had the defrost, signal, etc on my mirrors before the swap.

Bump. Someone give this guy a hand...lol

H (BLK) looks like the ground, F (WHT) looks like switched power.

I don't understand the problem. How long does it stay on? Mine stays on for like 30 secs.. it's controlled by the BCM.

If you tap into the light on the door or the dome (from puddle lamp supply on the mirror) the light stays on. After 5 mins it was still on.

I currently have power mirrors and it is wired up already for defrost. I mean the there are wires for the defrost supply, and defrost/puddle lamp ground, but the old mirrors do not have that option. I am going to disconnect the defrost/ puddle lamp ground which is pin H and then run pin H to the ground on the light and the puddle lamp supply( pin F) to the positive on the light. So I am bypasing the ground on the connector and I think that might work. Someone said that on the light in the door the positive is always hot (which is why the puddle lamp never turns off) and the negative is the one that turns off the light. After I try this I hope the defrost option will still work, we'll see I guess.

It sounds more confusing than it is.

Yes, the domelight is negatively switched. You'll have to run constant power to the puddle lamp and use the switched ground from the dome lamps, and you should have no problems!

After 99, yes. Everything else prior (domelight was the exception) was positively switched. With the advent of the BCM, most things 99+ are negatively switched. In 99-02 even the headlights are.

Well I got the puddle lamps to work correctly. I unpluged the defrost/ puddle lamp ground and tied in to the ground on the light in the door and it works. Not sure if the defrost will work, but if it does cool if not oh well.
