I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this but I have a 96 k1500 5.0 that has a really bad exhaust leak/hole on the y pipe. Previous owner tried welding it. But it has to be replaced. I've read many threads on different forums of people breaking manifold bolts. And this truck has quite a bit of rust underneath, so I'm expecting that this is going to be a big problem. One of my friends said just cut the old y pipe a few inches under the flange and cut the flange off the new one and use exhaust couplings on it. Would something like that work? I'm just worried about breaking the manifold bolts and having to remove the manifolds and possibly having to bring it to a shop. I don't want this to turn into a HUGE project. Any help would be appreciated.

Where is the hole? Can you use a band clamp and wrap it?

That would probably work.
