Hey guys, recently installed Yukon 4.56 gears into my 09 Silverado 1500 4x4. Few weeks later, the stock G80 bit the dust and is now stuck locked and makes a horrible clunk turning corners and has bad tire squeal.

Took it to a local differential shop, they are really pushing the Yukon DuraGrip Posi on me, but have heard nothing but bad about them due to the clutches wearing out and/or breaking. Was thinking about the Detroit TrueTrac as i've seen a few guys on this forum run them. Any thoughts? Also thinking on a Detroit locker...

Need to get this dealt with before the G80 destroys my new gears.

i run it...feels like its a heavier unit than a clutch type L/S. No parts to wear out but if something does give, its not serviceable so its a heavy door stopper. You might get some whine from all the gears in it too...i can hear mine a bit.

What? If the is a whine, it isn't your tru-track. The gears don't move in that unit when you are driving down the road. They only move when you are turning corners or are in reverse.

OP, both are good units. If you don't mind one-wheel-peel in reverse, then go with the true-track. The duragrip is also a good unit. Just remember to add friction modifier.

then its the gears  i was told i might get some whine with it.

one thing with the truetrac, and idk why, is that eaton doesnt recommend u use synthetic for it  they say it messes with the torque bias but people run syn with it w/o issues. I broke it in with conventional and switched to synthetic...no noticeable diff

I changed from an Auburn in my 10 bolt to a trutrac in my 14bolt and as I really like the feature of no clutches it does clunk and clang more so then a clutch style limited slip. However this thing does hit Posi all the time doing burn outs and drifting corners if you into that kind of stuff LOL. I cant speak for the Yukon LS as never had one but if its anything like my auburn it would kick in and out of POSI which I hated.

I would recommend the trutrac and looks like your 23 days past their $50 rebate they offered on it. Good luck with the change.

Yeah I honestly haven't heard much good about that Duragrip. They priced one out for me @ 580$ installed. I just want something that will LAST ... I don't to heavy 4x4 mostly trails. Heard that the lockers can be noisy around corners. How are the Trutrac for noise?

I have the tru track and I like it but I can't say for the Yukon. Never run one. You didn't happen to be spinning when it went out were you?

Just bought my Truetrac a few weeks ago, haven't installed it yet but Jegs has it on sale right now for $384 while everyone else still sells it for $434 so it's like getting an instant $50 rebate

Yea seems like TrueTrac is the way to go! Do they come with some sort of warranty ?

Yeah I think it's only got a 12 month warranty, and the truetrac is supposed to be good for up to a 38" tire

Bryan installed my TRU TRAC on my last truck a few years ago. I would abuse the crap out of that thing, proof is pictured below. I never had a lick of trouble with the locker or the gears.

So i priced out a true trac from a local drivetrain shop, they want over 1000 just for the truetrac... and a Yukon Duragrip would be just over 600 with two years of warranty. Plus its rebuild-able so I'm still not sure what way to go!
