Just bought a '97 Sierra SLT and there is power steering fluid all over the left front axle area. The seller's mechanic suggested the pitman arm seal on the steering gear is going out. I just picked this monster up yesterday and am loving it so far, but I need to get this fixed ASAP. I priced a reman. steering gear from the following site at $245:
Sounds like a good enough deal. Is this a common problem on the '97/98 Z71 trucks? Also, does the airbag system tie into the steering shaft/gear in any way? I'm going to swap the gear out within the next couple of weeks - already did one on my Syclone - but wanted to know if there's anything to watch out for when tackling this job.
