my friend has a 4 door blazer and already has 2 12 inch alpine type r's (2 ohm) but is looking for an amp. he wants the subs to hit hard but still sound good and i told him that if you overpower the subs they wont sound as good. he is looking into this zapco amp on ebay rated at 375 watts x 2 at 2 ohms. i know the type r's are 300 watts rms, but will 75 extra watts make that much of a difference in SQ? let me know what you guys think... btw heres the ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=5700431292&rd=1

I've been installing stereo systems for along time and i've never even heard of a zapco amp.
Zapco aka SWAP MEET LOUIE thats one crappy amp bro...dont buy it.
damn, for some reason i thought they made good amps...oh well, what do you recommend instead?
zapco makes some of the cleanest amps made today :read:
www.zapco.com

ask any seroius sq competor what is the top 3 brands you can buy and zapco will usely make the list

robert zeff use to be there lead engineer and now they have even better technology

yall proabbly never heard of brax or tru either and there fucking sick amps but cost a shit load
also on your power 375 will just give you more headroom so you want have to turn your gains up hardly at all to get the same amount of sound plus it will be cleaner since you want be pushing your to clipping to get the sound you want

edit

that amp is rated by zapco to 175 x 2 @ 2ohms stereo but zapco are known to be under rated but not by 200 watts

if his subs are 300 rms try a jbl 600.1 from sounddomain for 220 with a real factory warretny and from a trusted place also since his subs arent the best for sq you want be able to tell any diffrences

WOW, ya think so? Then how is this guy from Sac hitting 148db on the new TermLab senors:

He's running 2 Zapco 9.0's to the DD 15's and 1 6.0 to his highs.

Now I know the Reference series doesn't compete with the Cometition series, but Zapco is an old-school company (from the mid 80's) that makes a quality product.

that is what i thought before too, thank you guys for reassuring me :bowtie:
I also have seen zapco at many of the shows that I compete in. They make a well built amp and have been doing it for some time now.
not to mention you hear the name zapco in a lot of old school and new school rap songs...and im pretty sure people who are in the music business know what company's products are good, also considering most rap revolves around the bass line...
you do know those are not the right specs on that amp you listed on ebay though right?

yea i realized that after looking at the zapco website, this is the one he would want right? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=5700431247&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I assume that the 12's are dual 4 ohm, and that's why you said they're 2 ohms (VC's in parallel). Then the Zapco 750.2 would put out 375w X 2 into 2 ohms, and be a good choice.
Well I learned something today, I've never even heard of zapco are they a west coast thing or sumpthin?

that would be the one if he wants zapco or he could go with a zapco 4.0 (there flagship competion models)

nope not really a "westcoast" amp there not really heard of a lot becasue there kinda expensive compared to other amps and there more of an sq type amp that can hammer subs
Are you kidding? I'd give my right nut to have zapco in my truck.

Zapco is some of the industry standard setting stuff.
