So yesterday Im working with my friend and we see a old school h1 drivin down the road...I then proceed to tell him that the h2's & h3's are a disgrace to the hummer name. He thinks they're badass because he read in a petersons magazine that it had good reviews offroad and that it could go through way more shit than my truck. Hes the type of guy that will just talk out of his ass to win an argument. I asked him what does the h2 have that my truck doesn? He said "bigger beefier suspension". I didn' even bother askin him to elaborate but I just think they're soccer mom vehicles no more capable offroad than my Z, granted the fact they come with 35's on them. The whole conversation kinda pissed me off enough to actually ask yall who really knows. So i'd like to hear some of yalls expert opinions

I think I read that Peterson's article back in the day, and they did give it good reviews off-road. Hummer's have a bigger engine, and a 3/4 ton drivetrain iirc.... so technically it is "stronger" than your pick-up on paper I guess. It seems most people hate them with a passion, so be prepared for some biased responses to your question.

35 baldterrains, 9.5 rear, 9.25 front, shorter wheelbase, better approach/departure/breakover, coil 5 link rear, better engine/trans. I believe they are locked also.

i've seen a couple videos of them breaking tierods pretty easily
I saw that exact same video! I guess thats where I got the idea that they were meant to pick up the kids from the soccer game. I'm not even trying to say that a Z71 itself is even capable "offroad" but all I know about the h2 is it has IFS so it could only be so much better than a z.

They are open up front. If your truck was locked in the rear and geared, I'd bet $$ on yours because of frame clearance and tires.

Look at the approach angle and tires of a stock Z71. I can't believe there's even a question, H2 or H3 are superior to a stock Z offroad.

It's not even a matter of IFS- it's design.

However I'm confident that I've got my truck setup to beat a stock H2- hands down. So for the money a built Z could win and have money left over.

all im tryin to say is H2 is joke compared to Hummer. It may have 3/4 ton susp and all that but I never see people wheelin em'. Only vid I saw some dude snapped the tie rod going over some rocks.

H2 crowd is not typical, how many escalades/range rovers/etc do you see wheelin?

where are your pics?

I've seen plenty of vids of H2s wheeling and not breaking anything. I've also seen vids of stock trucks breaking while wheeling.
W3RD.

What does the owner/driver have to do with the vehicles capabilities? Should all the sports cars that sit in garages be labeled as slow?

The tie rod video shows a mix of driver error and a weak link. Since the front end is essentially the same in the Z, you can't expect it to fair any better in the same situation. With these trucks, if you see one tire not spinning and you keep laying into the throttle, expect carnage.

That tie rod breakin H2 didn't have me as a spotter, that was it's downfall.

H2's are way hardcore! So Hardcore my sister in law has one and it almost caught on fire because she had the "offroad only" lights on and she did not remove the covers well she comes over our house and the plastic is so hot it dripping like candle wax all over the roof. LOL what a moron.

Anyone can snap a tie-rod going over a rock in any stock truck....

Not technically 'wheeling at the moment, but I took this at Pismo:

This was taken at Prairie City Offroad Park:

That's after the pull-out. You can see how deep he was by the mud on the rear door/step. I think it was a rental. :D

I had seen him getting around the park, and went to find him to ask for a pull out from high-centering:

... only to find him stuck and looking for me. :) A rocked out K5 pulled us both out.

This sometimes shows up on my block:
