mine does it, it started after i cleared the needles. ive heard of other tahoes doing it, its reading accurate so i dont mind. I dont think its worth replacing the whole cluster.

 

Mine reads accurate to. I'll just keep an eye on it.

i think when they go back they start to move back and forth like that but im not 100% positive on that

 

Could also be a sending unit.

 

I'd bet sender too.

 

Mine doesnt wiggle but it moves some when you accelerate fast or brake hard then goes back to where it was. I guess its just the fuel sloshing some.

The hummingbird effect is the stepper motor in the guage.
Very hard to find a replacement.

when i cleared my needles, the same thing happened to me. the little motor that controls the guage just goes bad. i've been told their very inexpensive from the dealer.

Not for a long time now there are chambers in the tank to stop slosh..

sorry for the post dig, but i just bought my wife a 99 escalade & the needle does this wiggle. it also jumps from empty to full when i first turn the key. would the stepper motor cause both these problems?
is the stepper motor in the cluster? if so i should be able to just change the cluster, right?

would be a good place to start, and yes in the cluster.

 

As long as the one you buy doesn't already have the same issue!

Only the stepper motor needs to be replaced but if you dont want to dig into the cluster then just replace the whole cluster.

It's super simple man.

Take off your dash bezel
unscrew the 4 screws at the top left and right and bottom left and right on the cluster.
change motor
