After getting bored of my two sealed RE Audio REX 8" subs. I sold my Fi BL18 and used the money to buy a pair of carbon fiber Digital Designs 1508's.
For two 1508's, DD recommends 2 cubic feet, 32 square inches of port area, and a 21" long port. So with this in mind I designed a box to cram under the rear seat of my 2008 Silverado. In order for the seats to fold down and function, the seat must be raised a bit (about .5 to .75 inches). I used big spare nuts and big washers for spacing between the cab floor and seat frame.
Building the box was easy using a full 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" mdf, 18ga brad nails, wood glue, skil saw, and silicone to seal it up. The routered edges and carpet was my little touch. I also ordered two grilles from Digital Designs to protect my subs.
Here's a quick drawing of my box dimensions... Please remember that this crappy sketch is not to scale and is not exact. So please no bashing or corrections.
My subs
Started building the box, sealed the inside with silicone before the top went on
Passenger Side
I cut my holes as low as possible to avoid the large woofer magnets from hitting the top of the box
Driver Side
I view inside the box
Here is a pic of the big nut I used as a spacer to raise the seat. There is 6 total on the seat frame. 3 front and 3 in the back.
It's a good idea to raise your seatbelt brackets too. So grab 2 extra nuts and washers while you are at the hardware store. Total you will need 8 nuts, 6 for the seat and 2 for the seatbelt brackets.
Box complete, in place.
Driver side
Passenger side
No Nikes were harmed during this build.
The subs are single 4ohm, being powered by a Rockford Fosgate Power T1500-1bd wired at 2ohms. Each sub is getting about 500-600 watts.
Overall I am very pleased with the build and the output is awesome! I would put my lil 8's up against any sealed 10's or 12's.
