I would like to put the HD grill shell on my 1500 extended cab silverado. A lot of people were saying you have to also do the hd hood along with bumper. I have an aftermarket cowl hood and I dont see why you need to change the hood. Any specific reason?
The bumper I can see changing and from what I read, you have to drop it
1.5". Right now I have the ss bumper cover on it and would like to do the same thing on the HD bumper if I get it. Will it work, because the ss bumper on styling trucks is the same one for the 1500 and 1500HD.

your thinking of a 2500HD grille. the 1500 and 1500HD grille is the same. the 1500HD is just a rebadged light duty 2500. a 2500HD has the taller blunt nose hood and bigger grille opening that dips down into the bupmer

here is a 2500HD front end, notice the bigger grille opening that dips into the bumper and the taller hood:

and here is the 1500HD (top) and regular 1500 (bottom)... notice they are the same front end:

Ya I love that look. So technically I don't have to change the hood, because like I said before I have the nice cowl hood that I would like to leave. If I had a stock hood I would definately replace it with the more agressive 2500. So, I just need to get the 2500 HD grill shell and bumper or one of the nice sierra front bumpers right?

those 03+ GMC bumpers wont fit right up.. you can do it. But even then it'll take some work to get to even look right.

Darren (BigBlazer87)'s truck has that setup and it looks good but even it doesn't look right, he's swapping it back for a 99-02 HD bumper now.

I dont understand what you are saying. You say you want to put an HD bumper on it, but you want to keep your SS cover.

if you want a tough looking front end, get a 2500HD hood, grille (and all the stuff you need to do the swap) and then grab a GMC sierra front bumper like this one:

^damn... well i thought it looked good from the front, didnt realize the gap was that bad on the side... would look good if that gap was filled though.

10blksilver1500... i dont think they make an SS cover that fits the HD front ends... stylin trucks might not recognize that there is a difference between the 1500/2500 and the 2500HD front ends. i hate the way cowl hoods look on HD trucks... it just doesnt go with the grille all that well. why not just keep your 1500 grille and put a cowl hood on it? is this a lifted truck or lowered truck?

nope the ss bumper wont work... cause of the hd grill going down into the bumper... imo just change out the top plastic of the bumper lower ur bumper about 1.5 inches down hd grill and ur oem hood will work hd hood or any other afther maket hood...
