I have a 02 gmc sierra with the 5.3 excab short box. What I want to know is has anyone used the stock exhaust manifolds and cats with a y-pipe in place of the muffler and duals out the back. Will it sound good or do I need a muffler. I like deep low sounding exhaust and since my muffler is rusted out I am looking for opinions.

Thanks, Tony

You will get 20 years in the electric chair. :D

You should have a muffler, you need a little more BP than just the y pipe and cats

in my 2002 tahoe i just lopped the muffler off and ran 2 dual pipes off the y pipe and it sounds amazing (to me haha)

Yes I know I haave to keep the cats, but whst muffler will sound good then for a deep low sounding exhaust if it's not straightpiped with cats?

Also, has anyone tryed the dynomax vt with the valve in it? How does it work/sound?

Yes but in California they'll stone you in the streets for no muffler, you dont want to know the punishment for no cats :nono:
What's the punishment? I'm a rebel.

Lol, no. And could you possibly shorten up your sig some? It's huge.

Get a Cherry Bomb Extreme, it'll be loud and deep, and you can get a SI/DO if you want dual tips.

Thanks guys, after listening to some trucks with a cherry bomb extreme I think I'm sold. But how much do they resonate/drone on the inside of the truck?

Hardly any at all, and none if you're running it out the back.

Thanks! I think I will get one since they are cheap enough for a kid's budget with no income right now.

Haha, I hear you there. I go down to Lodi kinda often to meet with the fellas in the club, you should tell the cops to be less gay please. Hahahaha.

I have straight duals with glasspacks. I like it loud!
I have true dual straights with cats 45'd out behind my rear wheels with 4" tips. It is loud as hell if I hammer down on it, but cruising its just a deep tone.

Hey yall a little update.
Me and a buddy installed a cherrybomb extreme on my truck last night, and I love the sound! That muffler sounds so much better than the dronemaster that was on it, and now it's all around louder.

u are completely wrong. sorry for calling u out but u need to know this. stock cats create way too much back pressure and choke performance.
He said strait pipe, as in strait pipe with no cats or muffler is what I thought he meant (wasn't it?) therefore would loose too much back pressure.
