Building LQ4 6.0

I have an 04 6.0 almost complete.

I'm looking for a D.D. but at the same time I will Drag Race some, and Street Race some. I'm looking for 13s nothing major.
I don't want to stroke it, or bore it as of now.

It has about 40k on it, should I go ahead and have it bored, new bearings and everything?

I'm looking for 243s to put on it so I can get rid of my 317s.
I'm going to be running Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
"Reverse Split" - 230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA

I'm going to swap the intake to my 01 intake because of the cable T.B. instead of the stupid Electric T.B. it came with.

I have a P&P T.B.
Pacesetter L/T and ORY
K&N C.A.I.
Black Bear Tune
I already have a 24k Tranny Cooler, and a VIG 3200 stall

I'm going to upgrade the Oil Pump, and I'm going with a Double Roller timing chain.
Where can i pick up some 8.1 Marine Injectors? Do I have to cut wires to make them work and such?

I'll be going down to a Yukon 4:30:1 gear, with a Detroit TrueTrac, a Yukon rebuild kit for the rear end.
I'll be going with a FLT Level 5 transmission.

WCCH wants roughly 1400 for head work. i don't want to spend that much on heads, but i want heads to go with that big cam i have.

i can get 243 heads for around 750.00 shipped, but i don't think they come with springs. what springs should i go with on those heads and that big of a cam?

OH, what is everyone using to paint their blocks black and the brackets?
I'm thinking of painting everything black.

Thanks for any help:shake:

We got some in common. I am putting the Patriot cam and springs in my 2004 LQ4 tonight, prolly won't mess with dropping it in though. To get the double roller to work you are going to have to modify the front cover. The 8.1L Marine injectors will plug and play.

What size rear tire are you going to run?
Springs, I've heard good things about the Patriot gold dual spring setup, that's what I went with but of course, there aren't any miles on them yet.

Any regular spray paint will work, but you prolly aren't going to be able to see it...

modify the front cover how?

did you have your heads reworked?

im running a 275-45-20 i think thats 29.8"
my slicks are going to be 28" once i burn these 26x10.5x16 up.

i want a simple cam swap, so maybe go with a big 224? or should i just go with a custom cam for my heads?

how much did the golds run you,

if i order the oil pump is that ALL i need to order or should i pick up a new screen, sproket and such.

Point me in the right direction for a D.D. 6.0, im not very good with al this stuff.

thanks

The stock front cover is too shallow to accomodate a double roller setup. That is why you never see anybody with them. I'm running the stock heads on my 2004 LQ4, I'm not going to mess with them at all. The reason I asked about the tire size is because that is a lot of gear for a ~30" tire, considering this is a DD. I run 4.10s with a 30" tire and I'm kinda wishing I was running 3.73s. In fact, I do wish I was running 3.73s. Cruising down the highway I saw an immediate loss in fuel mileage with the 4.10s at around 70mph, and it was a couple MPG loss IIRC. I think the gold spring setup was $250, comes with everything, it's the whole setup. For a DD 6.0L, personally I'd recommend a big 224 cam maybe something a little bit larger, is this going in a RCSB 2WD, or a heavier truck? As far as the oil pump is concerned, honestly I'd leave the stock on in there. After my episode of the pinched o-ring, I'm not even changing timing chains lol. Shouldn't need it though, the engine only has 33,000 miles.

well i was looking into the 4:10s at first.
its going in an 01 ext cab.

so stay with the stock oil pump, i just wanted to put a new one so thats one part less to worry about.

i want my heads milled, with springs. so i think thats the way ill end up going. milled with dual springs.

do they make a aftermarket timing cover that will allow the double roller? if so about how much will that run?

i got a lot of dreams, but not a lot of funding. i have to save up to buy parts and install them myself to cut down on the budget. but the swap i can do with the help of friends.

i just want a partlist so i can start saving to get it.

i'm going to replace front and real seals no matter what along with the oil pan gasket

I think a ported LS6 oil pump is only like $80 or something like that. It should be more than sufficient.

The 8.1 marines are 44# or 42# I can't remember so that should more than cover your tuning needs.

Slap an LS2 timing chain in there.

I like the cam choice you should actually be able to run LS6 yellow springs with that low of a lift and be fine, plus they sound like stock and aren't noisy at all.

As far as the gears go...where did you find Yukon 4.30s? I thought only Motive made them? Either way nice choice on the gears

Also why swap TBs? There's absolutely nothing wrong with DBW

#10 ·
when i get home ill post the link, Hit Man X gave me the site, and i asked them if they had 4:30s and they gave me thepart number. those gears run about 250.00

the oil pump ive found brand new is from thunderracing.com and it's about 150.00.

i want a higher compression because ill be running 93 octane.
i'd rather the dual springs because if i'm unhappy with this cam, i'll take it out and put a bigger one.

i don't want to stay with stock bolts, so does anyone know of any ARP bolts that i can use on the cam, intake, oil pump, main bearings and such?

thanks

Im looking at the ARP Pro Series Wave-Loc Rod Bolts from summit.
how would I find out which ones I need for my 6.0? They have 2 different ones, Small/Large Journal.
Same thing with the Main Bolts. I don't know if I have 2 or 4, buton most of the 6.0 builds I look at they have 4 Main Bolts.

They also have the ARP torque converter bolts (ARP-230-7303) GM 10"
What about ARP Flywheel Pro Series which one do I have internal or external balance? Is that bolt 7/16"?

Sorry so many questions, I'm just trying to build a reliable motor, but still put down some good power.

#15 ·
WOW, so what the hell do I do about getting those bolts? Summit doesn't tell me how many bolts are in the kit, but the kit is only like 30 bucks, so I'd guess I'd need a few of them.

I wanna pull my 5.3 so damn bad, but I have to wait because I know my stock tranny wont hold up.

If I was to swap TBs can I run an electric TB on my 5.3 in my 94 instead of trying to make that 2000 model 6.0 work. I've read that the 60E wont bolt up to the Older 6.0s, how true is that?

Thanks

i as looking in the summit book, and it has a set for the LS1.

should i go with an LS2 timing chain or a Manley or something of that sort.

i picked up that Oil pump you showed me Kyle.Tomorrow ill start taking the heads off and such. but i gotta get my Motor stand put together.

I'm going to pick up a set of Yellow Springs for my 5.3 because i'll be going with a 224 cam and putting it in my work truck.

but that's about a year or so away.

paid for it this morning when i was able to get on :head:

now it's time to find a set of springs.

if i was to MILL my 317s .030 i think it is  what length push rods to pick up? which ones are the best? should i replace my lifters too?
what head gaskets to run?

i'm going to get JustinSS to burn me a basic 6.0 tune on an 02 PCM.

if i was to use my 5.3 in my 94 would i be able to run my 04 PCM and wiring harness on it, along with the Electric T.B.?

Thanks

You're going to want more injector than the 8.1s for that setup. I agree with the others, stock oil pump is fine and just run an LS2 timing chain.

#21 ·
Marine 8.1s would be okay, they're rated 42-44lbs/hr usually.

#23 ·
Not needed unless you plan to put some boost to it

#24 ·
so go with the 44lb injectors?

where can i get some, all the ones i've found are either sold, or the Threads are old, so i'm sure they don't still have them.

i keep seeing Racetonix.com but these are the only ones i have found http://www.racetronix.com/17113739.html
will these work? do they plug and play?

Thanks

Yeah largest direct fit are the ~43lbs/hr units... 8.1 Marine/MultiTec II.
