Just purchased new fuel filter for 2004 Silverado. Dealer gave me the same filter that my 2000 Silverado uses, but can't find the location of the filter on the 2004. It is not on the frame rail like 2000. Traced lines from tank and they go in and out some kind of box like arrangement mounted above the driveshaft forward of the differential and straight to the engine. No filter in sight that looks like the one provided by the dealer. Hoping they have not decided to mount it inside the tank. Anyone experienced this yet. Have 4.8 L v-8 standard cab.

Appears there may be two different tranny pans on the '04 models. One "deep" and the other "shallow."
One has a plug and the other doesn't.
No proof but from reading at various places and noting that some part suppliers ask about the pan type when selling a tranny filter it seems that there may be two possible pans.

I had to put an impact on my '01s pan to get that plug out...
I understand everyone's frustration... more reasons I'm glad I have that Benz that will run 500K without a sweat as long as I change the timing chain at 250K and set the valve lash every 100K.
Oh... that shat about the intank fuel filter is the dumbest crock I've heard ever! ow:
