KP says no towing capability with the use of the 4 link and canti bag setup. Can anyone chime in with first hand experience about this please? Tow load will be 3200 lbs. most likely never more. Thank you for your input everyone.

towing capacity is cut by about half of original capacity because of the placement of the bag on the cantilever bar.
TUKN4s ... would this mean then that you could potentially tow up too 5k pounds capacity? I believe the 1/2 ton rating for the truck is 10k pounds. What would you suggest? Thank you for the input, as always appreciate your knowledge.

you have to throw out anything the truck specs say when you talk bagging. the stock specs are in relation to the leaf spring setup.

I'm referring to half the bag lifting capacity.

lets say the bags can hold 5,000 lbs. when you place the bag in a cantilevered setup, you cut down the lifting capacity. the KP cantilever cuts down just about 1/2. so that would mean that 2500lbs of weight force would equal 5,000 lbs of force on the actual bag because of dynamics.

So Slam RE7 or RE8 could or could not tow 3200 lbs sorry Brett I have no math logic lol

It can tow it but the life of the bags will be cut down depending on how much you actually tow.

3200 lbs will look be like about 6400 lbs on the bags plus the weight of the truck itself. Also, are we talking about trailer tongue weight I'm assuming

I am not concerned with bag life if I need to buy new bags every year that's okay there inexpensive. I am concerned about the frame and tow stress. The truck will only tow during the summer when I want to take the boat to the lake and the drive is less then one mile from my lake house were practically on the water. Sometimes I may want to bring the boat home and that distance is about 200 miles. We will probably tow every other weekend four times a weekend the lenght of the summer to and from the launch ramp. On the trailer tongue here is what it says

GVWR 2900
GAWR Front 1450
GAWR Rear 1450

What do you think?

The frame will have nothing to do with the kp kit. Thats all in the notch you build. I would go with a 2x3 square tubing notch instead of the 8 piece normally used with the kit.
I'm assuming you already have kp kit and that's the reasons for these questions, but if not, I'd go a different route with the rear suspension.

All in all, I believe you wouldn't any side effects if you towed that small amount with it but it definitely isn't designed with towing in mind. Building a strong notch section and maybe even welding the rear cantilever mount to the frame would greatly increase strength.

Thanks Brett. I don't have the kp currently. I had it before and liked it because I cold just bolt it in. Have talked to a few fab shops about a 4 link, a 3 link wishbone some bags on bars so just researching for the right setup to do and still take the boat out. Talked to a few well known fab shops in the industry and they have the right ideas it's just the cost that is why I am exploring options. Thank you!

How does it ride no issues ? Is your frame and notch boxed in, welded in notch? Thank you for your input
The ride isn't much different then when not towing. I did use the multi piece notch you can buy but I made sure to box everything in and then some. But in your case I'd say you would be okay since your not making a lot of long trips. just do a good look over from time to time to make sure everything is good working condition.
