Noise coming from rear ended when accelerating

I just bought a 2005 Silverado 1500 ccsb with the 5.3. When I accelerate from a stop it makes a sqeak/clunk noise from the rear end. I had a buddy tell me that it's the drum brakes sticking and when you accelerate they brake loose. I've never heard of this. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks !! I will try to get a video of the noise tomorrow

It could be any of a dozen things. If it's a squeak, something probably needs greased. I've seen shock bushings make squeaking sounds. Have someone stand in the bed and cycle the suspension while you're underneath to listen for squeaks and creaking, then add grease where needed.

If it's the sound of something breaking loose or engaging and makes the truck shake or shudder it's something mechanical and is likely slowly failing. U-joints are always a good thing to check, especially on an older truck. It wouldn't hurt to open up the brakes and see if the shoes are worn out or sticking.

Since you said "when I accelerate" my first reaction is u joint. They make about a dozen different sounds depending on what stage of failure. Keep driving it until it makes the snap/dig into asphalt sound and you'll know what it is for sure.
