What are your plans with the motor? Full rebuild or just freshen up?

I need to sit down and make a part list to see what I want to put into it. I would really like to do a full rebuild but would be alot more $ with Kit and engine work. The bearings look fine so we have to Spec the cylinder walls to see wear. I swear this thing was ether driven by a grandma or someone really liked to save money and run their oil for long periods of time.

I have to find a way to Get this engine in a tube of DIESEL to break up all the Crap inside.

Im picking up my LS3 heads today for $775 Brand new from a guy on craigslist. Will have to change springs but Still waiting on Justin to get back to me from BB on what cam he feels will be best. I also have to re gear the truck as city driving im at 1300 RPM @ 35 MPH and its really going to suck with a big cam.

Nce progress. A holley tunnel ram, suitable cam/springs/pushrods, and longtubes will easily meet your 500 flywheel hp goal. Look into a spinmonster type grind. Considering your are fully into the motor, i'd just go longer stroke and higher compression... And make big low end torque as well.

Re: The Road to 500+ HP - 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

Can someone point me in the right direction to order a rebuild kit?
I dont have a cam picked out yet and am curious as to if I have to upgrade my pushrods?( Does cam lift determine longer push rods?)
Push rods are 7.4 with stock heads. Cam lift doesn't change length. Not sure what size you'll need. Get a push rod length checker. I recommend getting parts from Texas Speed. Awesome customer service.

GM 6.0L Intake Manifold #17272113. Does not include Fuel Rail, Injectors, Throttle Body, or MAP Sensor.

This part is unused, but was taken off a new GM 6.0L LS Series Engine. (see picture of engine)

NOTE: This manifold comes from a #12644374 IAFM Assembly.

Re: The Road to 500+ HP - 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

That intake is now mine for $84.90

I Have the block and crank all ready to go to machine shop on Monday, we did a bore test and looks like there is no need for Bore as the reading were 1 thousands out of round. Ill let the engine shop confirm that but am hoping to just have it cleaned and cam bearings put in.

does any one know what a safe RPM range is for stock rods and crank in a 6.0? Im really having a hard time picking this cam out and if I knew what max RPM I could push safely I would be able to pin point where i want the power to be made.

Update:
Ok Im reading and looks like a good idea to change out rod bolts since it s out.

Re: The Road to 500+ HP - 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

So I Cancelled the order for the new L92 intake and will be looking for a used one that comes with the injectors and Wires from junk yard.

Anyone know the best year and make of truck that came stock with big injectors that will fit LS3 heads? Do i have to watch out for trucks/ SUVs with flex fuel?

Update: I have been told that the stock trucks that had flex fuel are the ones with the bigger injectors.

Re: The Road to 500+ HP - 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

I noticed you said your tune will carry over from the 5.3. That is sort of true. But you will need to retune without a doubt. Also will need to do a crank relearn.

Was just saying that I have Black bear tune which I think I just have to pay for shipping both ways for Justin to re tune it.

that 6.0 was stolen for 400$
It was for sure a deal I couldn't pass up. I wanted to get a LQ9 that had 78,000 for $1200 until I found this one.
Figured the money I saved I could just make it a LQ9.

Engine/Crank/ Heads to machine shop tomorrow.

L92 NNBS intakes are kinda rare. You can get the fuel rails for around 50-60 and flex fuel injectors are bigger but also use different plugs than non-flex so you will need adapters. Truck TB's (87mm) should be plenty for it, you will also need an x-link to make the TB work

Re: The Road to 500+ HP - 5.3 to 6.0 Swap

:fp: i see he has an 01 now  in that case scratch the xlink, TB and fuel rail.

Youre gonna have to modify ur own fuel rail if you dont get the NNBS rail. In that case you still need injectors and I dont think the flex will cut it for u. Talk to Justin and ask him what he thinks...You might need marine injectors...even if you dont need them now, its better to have them in there in case u ever do decide to boost it

L92 intake is same as tbss/nnbs intake with the exception of rectangular ports correct?
