Eastwood Rust encapsulator

So my stuff finally arrived Saturday. After doing a full paint correction with my Porter Cable, Chemical Guys V36, Hex logic pads, then a full coat of JetSeal 109, and finally a full wax, I decided to get the under parts done.

2 cans of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Most of my frame was pretty good, the suspension is what had bubbles. I used a wire brush to take care of that. I will be hitting the frame with a coat of Eastwoods Rubberized Rust Encapsulator.

-Full frame
-Front and rear suspension
-Towing Package
-Under cab
-Some parts of the brake lines
-Tops of shock mounts
-Bottoms of Shock moutns (had 1 overspray.... because I was lazy, kicking myself now.)
-Under each wheel well after a good clean.
-Touched up a few spots on my bed from 2 years ago when I didn't have a trailer and had to load my snowmobile in the back of my truck, really sharp carbides.. only a few knicks, easy touchup.

Turned out pretty damn good!

Note: I did NOT do the center cross-member where the torsion bars are, or the exhaust. (yet)

It was hella bright out, I need a few spotchecks in the wheel wells... later.

where do I buy this stuff?

Do you like it? If its nice I'll drive down to their store (35min away) and get some for my truck.

Dry to touch. I think it turned out well. It's expensive... but the results looked good. After next year's winter here in WI, I'll be able to report back on more.

I bought mine off their website direct as I got free shipping as a new customer. Amazon carries it too.

I'm going to buy probably another 2 cans of the straight rust encapsulator. I'm going to coat the frame and wheel wells with the rubberized stuff. We'll see :)

So far I like it. But It will be hard to tell if it was worth it. They claim 1000 salt sprays with no degredation. I'll be the judge of that :)

I want to paint the bottom of my doors too. We'll see how that works out. (The bottom of the inside of the doors.)

Im going to use the Heavy duty anti rust on the back side of the inner rockers under the truck. It says it stays like a waxy material and self heals if it gets scratched. I dont care about looks under the cab nobody is going to be looking there haha. I just want to stop rust!

Dude, you have to paint over that with paint, it won't hold up on it's own, it's actually rather brittle and will scratch easily.

I also would've sanded down those rust spots better if you were going to go through all the trouble of painting the frame.

Well dude, my truck isn't as new as yours. :) Eastwood claims you can spray right over rust. No painting needed. I did use a wire brush to knock any spots that looked "loose". My frame was actually in pretty good condition considering it's age here in WI. Only small cancer spots that I hit with a brush. I did call Eastwood and talked to them first.

I don't care what they told you they obviously don't know their own product lol. I even used their PRE surface prep first too, and noticed after the RE went on and was dry 3 days later it scratched rather easily with a fingernail, not good.

FML. Well I will be crawling under to check later. Im going to hit the frame with the rubber stuff. I'm going to get my money back if I find your statements to be true :)

Def check it out. I may have experienced this because mine was scraped down to bare clean metal? No idea, but I was surprised how delicate it was. Once covered with a top coat I had no worries at all.

I'm hoping that's the case, but I would think it would bond better to bare metal? P.S. your stuff looks amazing. I want to stop/prevent rust.

If it turns out I can peel this off with my finger nail, I might just lose my mind, that was quite a bit of effort actually. My lungs did not appreciate the fumes either (and I was outside!)

So I did go under and start to scratch some of it. It didn't peel off. This may have something to do with the fact that the product is supposed to be painted over rust, and therefore better adhears to rust itself???

P.S. your frame/suspension looks friggin awesome!

Oh good. Thanks for the comment. It helps when you avoid driving in rain, and the winter too.

Not sure it has to be used over rust, but when my frame was stripped the metal was super smooth, I didn't bother scuffing it to provide a better surface for it to adhere to. Glad it worked out for you. Let me know how it holds up to stone chips now.

That will be the true test. I'll update when I know :)

I want to get some of the rubberized stuff to do the very bottom of my rockers.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
I spoke with Eastwood on this, as I wanted to do the same, the bottom of my rockers/inside of my doors. They said the rubberized stuff will run off a painted surface. Use the regular stuff (same stuff I used on my frame/suspension):
